Image of the Month - Carnivorous plants are fairly abundant on the Gulf Coastal Plain. Their habitats (such as bogs and savannas) are threatened by development. This yellow butterwort (Pinguicula lutea) has several mature flowers (out of the frame) and an emerging flower bud. The sticky basal leaves of the butterwort capture and digest insects. This photo was made at the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge.
